NSER Alumni Giving Back Through our Living Libraries Series

February 27, 2025

Instead of reading about careers, our students are having first-hand conversations with real NSER Alumni professionals.

Grade 10 Career Pathway Design and Ms. Matchett welcomed Molly Muzerall (NSER ‘18; Dental Hygienist), Marlee Schofield (BHS ‘18; NB Tourism), and Emma Theriault (Ultrasound Technician).

Students engaged in casual conversations, inquiring about career pathway choices, cost of educational programs, and the pros and cons of everyday work life.

A huge thank you to our guests.

Continuing NSER’s Living Libraries series, we welcomed Morlan Silliker (NSER ‘18; NBCSA Marketing, Communications, and Web Design), Rylan Carney (NSER ‘17; Marine Engineer), and Dylan Blackmore (NSER ‘13; Current NSER Teacher and Red Seal Electrician).

A huge thank you to our guests. We look forward to continuing this series!

Living Libraries #3 happened today with the support of Carlie Hallihan (NSER ‘17; Realtor), Brian Allison (NSER ‘16; Medical Radiation Technologist), and Vanessa McLaughlin (NSER ‘05; Communications Officer).

The students are now comfortable conversing with our professional speakers, asking important questions about work environment and educational pathways.

This series wouldn’t succeed without the time and effort from our speakers! Thank you!

Today, we hosted Living Libraries #4 – our biggest event yet! Students welcomed Betsy McGraw (NSER ‘98; Occupational Therapist), Sydney Matchett (NSER ‘17; Health Information Management), Bill McCrae (NSER ‘16; Fire Fighter / Fire Prevention Technician), Kendal Keating (NSER ‘13; Commercial Diver / Underwater Welder), Kelsey Manderville (NSER ‘05; Speech Language Pathologist), and Trent Mutch (NSER ‘06; Mutch’s Trucking General Manager).

We hope our volunteers understand how valuable their time in sharing their professional career expertise is to the students. Exposure to diverse career pathways can help direct students to an occupation they otherwise might not have known about.

Living Libraries #5 was a hit! Students welcomed Katie O’Shea (NSER / MVHS ‘05; Nurse Manager, Masters of Public Health), Dylan Hyland (NSER ‘16; Conservation Technician at Miramichi Salmon Association), Kenneth Nowlan (NSER ‘08; Dentist), Joshua Sherrard (NSER ‘06; Red Seal Insulator), Matthew Henderson (NSER ‘16; Chemical Engineer), and Justin Hyland (NSER ‘12; Senior Thermal Officer at NB Power).

As the Winter break approaches, we are grateful for the volunteers that take the time out of their busy schedules to enrich the learning of our students. It is so fulfilling to see NSER alumni give back to the school where their first concepts of a career path began!

This series wouldn’t succeed without the time and effort from our speakers! Thank you! We look forward to continuing this series.
